1. Translation and Cross Cultural Adaptation of Measurement Tools
This research project focuses on the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of childhood measurement tools from English to Swahili, ensuring their relevance and effectiveness in Tanzanian and broader Swahili-speaking contexts. The adapted tools include the Children’s Exposure to Domestic Violence Scale (CEDV) (Minanago et al., 2024), tailored to accurately capture children’s experiences with domestic violenced; the Academic Performance Rating Scale (APRS), aligned with local educational systems; the Comprehensive General Parenting Questionnaire (CGPQ), reflecting culturally relevant parenting practices; the Children and Youth Resilience Measure (CYRM), adapted to assess resilience; and the Parenting Style Inventory (PSI-II), adjusted to evaluate parenting behaviors in Swahili-speaking households. These tools provide crucial insights for research and practice in child protection, education, and parenting, enabling more effective interventions and policy development. Swahili versions of these tools are available upon request.

3. Impact of Inter-parental Violence on Academic Performance and Socio-emotional Well-being
This research examines the effects of witnessing inter-parental violence on children’s academic performance and socio-emotional health, focusing on Tanzanian children in middle childhood. The study reveals how such exposure can lead to lower academic achievement, increased emotional distress, and difficulties in social relationships. By analyzing these impacts, the research underscores the need for integrated support systems within schools and communities to address both educational and emotional needs, helping affected children regain confidence and engage positively in their academic and social environments.
4. Intervention Design
This project is focused on designing a targeted intervention to address the emotional challenges faced by children in middle childhood who have been exposed to inter-parental violence. Using the intervention mapping approach, the program is designed based on both theory and evidence to ensure its effectiveness. The intervention aims to help children process their emotions, develop resilience, and build healthy coping mechanisms. By addressing the specific emotional difficulties these children face, the project seeks to break the cycle of trauma and promote long-term psychological well-being, providing crucial support to children navigating these challenges.
